358-Modified and Sportsman Series Events Rescheduled For July 14 At Utica-Rome Speedway
VERNON, NY- After losing the annual Mother's Day special to rain for third consecutive year, Utica-Rome Speedway management and DIRT Motorsports officials have come up with a makeup date for the planned Turning Stone Casino Super DIRT Series for the 358-Modifeds and the Sunoco Race Fuels East Region Super DIRT Series for the Sportsman. On Wednesday July 14, the entire that was slated for May 9 will be run as a midweek special with the series events for the 358-Modifieds and Sportsman being joined by Four Cylinder Super Stocks all being on the schedule. Pit gates will open at 4:30 p.m., grandstands opening at 5 p.m., time trials at 7 p.m., and racing beginning at 7:30 p.m. Mirabito "The Energy Leader" and Wilber-Duck Chevrolet/Buick will sponsor the nights activities.
Once scheduled as the second stop in the summer long series, Utica-Rome Speedway will be stop number six on the Turning Stone Casino 358-Modifieds Super DIRT Series. DIRT's top 358-Modified drivers area are all expected to be attendance to try and continue their dominance over the Utica-Rome Speedway weekly warriors. Mitch Gibbs, Todd Burley, Stewart Friesen, Brian Weaver, Willy Decker, Dave Camara, and more will battle with Brett Hearn, Pete Bicknell, defending series champ Tim Fuller, Alan Johnson, Danny Johnson, and a host of others for top honors in the 100 lap affair. Many big block competitors are expected to compete with 358's, as the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series is at Fonda Speedway the following evening. All 358-Modifeds competitors who attempt to qualify for the event will be awarded 25 points towards the $10,000 Utica-Rome Speedway 358-Modified championship.
The DIRT Sportsman will also compete in a series event that evening, as the fourth race overall in the Sunoco Race Fuels Super DIRT Series stops at the "Action Track of the East". This will be the first event in the East Region, with the three previously scheduled events being part of the West Region. The top DIRT Sportsman drivers will compete for the checkered with regulars Bill Shantel, Jr., Jessica Zemken, Mike Button, Paul Carey, and more in the 30 lap main event. Zemken shocked the DIRT Sportsman world last season when she won her first career Sportsman race when the series made a visit last season. The event will carry full points for the overall Utica-Rome Speedway Sportsman championship.
The Four Cylinder Super Stocks will also compete on this evening to make it a three-division show.
Utica-Rome Speedway is conviently located on Route 5 in Vernon NY, just minutes from Exit 33 of the New York State Thruway.
