VERNON, NY - The two most anticipated shows of the 2000 racing season at the New Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon will be on Thursday August 17 and Thursday August 24. Excitement for these events are at an all-time high compared to any recent big show at Utica-Rome.
On Thursday August 17, the high flying Dirt Late Models of the all-new United Late Model Series (ULMS) will have their first ever race at Utica-Rome. This 40-lap open competition special will feature a mixture of the top Northeastern U.S. Late Model Stars, such as Bob Close, Todd Andrews, Jon Law, Al Brewer, Jim Bernheisel, Kirk Bradley, R.J. Windhausen, Jim Mazur, Allen Coy, Marshall Shunk, Ed Carley, Dan Stone, Bob Baldwin, and many others. Also scheduled that night are the DIRT Sportsman in a special $500 to win non-point 20-lap affair. The gates will open at 5pm, and racing will begin promptly at 7pm.
On Thursday August 24, the DIRT Big Block Modifieds will make their return to Utica-Rome for the first time since 1987. The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series for the Big Block Modifieds will roll into the Village of Vernon for a 100-lap special that is sure to bring out the top names in DIRT Motorsports racing. The Johnsons, the McCreadies, Tim Fuller, Billy Decker, Gary Balough, Pat Ward, Steve Paine, Brett Hearn, Kenny Tremont Jr., Jerry Higbie, Andy Bachetti, and many more of DIRT's finest will be on hand for the $6000 to win event. Utica-Rome's regular contingent of 358 Modifieds, led by high point man Ron Holmes, will also be on hand for a monetary bonus which will given to the four highest finishing Small Block drivers. NICE N' EASY GROCERY SHOPPES will sponsor the evening, which will also feature the DIRT Sportsman division in a $500 to win 20-lap non-point special. The gates will open at 4pm, with time trials beginning at 6:15pm, and heat races slated to begin at 7pm.
The New Utica-Rome Speedway is a family tradition in the Mohawk Valley of Central New York, and it is easily accessible from NYS Thruway Exit 33 and located just 20 minutes west of Utica, NY on Route 5 in Vernon. Free parking and overnight camping is allowed on speedway grounds.
