Utica-Rome Speedway Busily Preparing For 2005 Season

VERNON, NY- Fresh off giving away nearly $50,000 in point fund and prizes at the 2004 Awards Banquet, Utica-Rome Speedway management and track crews have been busy preparing for the 2005 season.

Shortly after the 2004 season ended at the famed Vernon oval, loads of clay were hauled in and laid out on the speedway. The new clay was put in the turns of the half-mile track, evening the transition in the banking. Also the smaller inner track was resurfaced with the new clay, making a track specifically for Four Cylinder Stock and Mini Sprint type racers.

Track crews have also been busy extending the front stretch wall into turn 4, making it safer at the exit of turn 4. While that was being done, a new fence was put up along the front stretch that separates the spectators and the race track. The new fencing replaced the old fence that has been standing since the track was built.

While track crews were busy around the speedway property, General Manager Dick Sweet has been working on the 2005 season schedule and securing sponsorships for the upcoming season. While no official decision has been made on which sanctioning body the Utica-Rome Speedway will operate under has been made, the speedway will open and operate as it has for the past decade.

The Utica-Rome Speedway website is also continuing it's tradition of bringing racing action into your home. All winter long, action from the 2004 season will be available for viewing at www.uticaromespeedway.com. The divisions and race dates will be changed periodically over the off-season so competitors and fans will be able to see their favorite divisions and races over the winter.
