VERNON, NY - The New Utica-Rome Speedway and the United Late Model Series (ULMS) are very excited for the inaugural event of the ULMS, which is to be held at Utica-Rome on Thursday August 17 at the popular Vernon half-mile track.

Utica-Rome Speedway Track Publicist, Doug Zupan commented, "This is a very exciting time for us. A great deal of effort has been put into this show by both us and the ULMS, and we feel that race fans will get one heck of a show. These Dirt Late Models, with their alcohol powered 4-barrel carburetors and big wide bodies, are rather unknowns up here in DIRT Modified country. Many of our race fans probably have never saw a Dirt Late Model race, so it will be a very special night to remember at Utica-Rome."

Drivers from all over southern New York and northern Pennsylvania have contacted ULMS Race Director, Chris Zuver, in participating in this $4,000 to win 40-lap event. "Fan support has come from Canada, New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio," Zuver stated. "The driver support has been overwhelming and they (the drivers) are calling on their competitors to come to Utica Rome on August 17."

ULMS Tech Inspector, Bill Law, was recently given a tour of the speedway by Zupan, and he was very impressed. "Wow, Utica-Rome is a very nice facility and our cars will get around this place at very high speeds, especially if the track is as smooth and tacky as I have heard," said Law. It's going to be awesome, and I cannot wait till next Thursday." Law's son Jon (pronounced Yahn) will be one of the Late Model drivers racing at Utica-Rome on August 17.

Some of the notable Dirt Late Model teams on the nearly 35 car entry list for the Utica-Rome show are: MACS/STARS driver, Todd Andrews, current MCR point leader, Bob Baldwin, Jim Bernheisel, Kirk Bradley, Al Brewer, Ed Carley, MACS winner Bob Close, Allen Coy, MACS driver Jim Mazur, Brent Rhebergan, Marshall Shunk, Dan Stone, RJ Windhausen and Mike Wonderling.

The winner of the ULMS Late Model Showdown will become a guaranteed starter for Penn-Can Speedway on August 20 and Little Valley Speedway's Late Model special on September 9.

The final qualifying race for the ULMS race at Utica-Rome will be Saturday August 12 at Woodhull Raceway. Expect a half-dozen of the Late Model teams to be at Utica-Rome this Sunday August 13 for an exhibition after the night's regular qualifying races.
