Wet Grounds Force Cancellation of Practice Sessions at Utica-Rome Speedway

VERNON, NY- A combination of already wet grounds and heavy rains Tuesday has forced Utica-Rome Speedway management to cancel both days of practice sessions scheduled for the weekend of April 17 and 18. The practice sessions will not be made up.

"Instead of putting cars and drivers at risk on a surface that may not be quite ready, we decided to cancel the practice sessions and concentrate on making sure the track is ready for the opener on April 25," stated General Manager Chip Burdick. He continued "We were working hard to get the track ready for practice from the hard winter we had, and the heavy rain we got Tuesday ended all hopes of being ready this weekend."

The season will still get underway as planned on April 25 when Gates-Cole Insurance and Wilber-Duck Chevy/Buick present a 40-lap Sunoco/Aplus 358-Modified Championship Qualifier plus a regular show of DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Four Cylinder Super Stocks. Gates will open at 3 p.m. with racing scheduled at 5:30 p.m.

Utica-Rome Speedway is located on Route 5 in Vernon, NY just minutes from New York State Thruway Exit 33. For more information on the home of the DIRT 358-Modifieds in Central New York, log on to www.uticaromespeedway.com. Information can also be obtained by calling the speedway office at (315) 829-4557.
