VERNON, NY- This has been one of the busiest offseasons in the history of Utica-Rome Speedway, with the track being re-surfaced, the landscaping of the infield, and the addition of the Four Cylinder Stock to the weekly wars. But, what may be the most exciting announcement yet is the formation of a $25,000 plus point fund for the DIRT 358-Modifieds.

For the 2004 season, the overall Utica-Rome Speedway DIRT 358-Modified Track Champion will receive a hefty $8,000 for their efforts, and with an additional $2,000 from DIRT Motorsports that is awarded to 358-Modified track champions, the sum is raised to a cool 10 grand. This more than doubles the amount awarded to the 2003 champion Dale Planck. While normally most point funds see a dramatic drop from first place to the rest of the top ten, the 2004 point fund at the famed Vernon oval will richly award the rest of the top ten competitors. Runnerup in the overall 358-Modified standings will be awarded $6,000, with the third place finisher getting $4,000. The fourth and fifth place finishers will receive $2,500 and $2,000, respectively. Sixth place will get $1,500, with seventh getting $1,300, eighth getting $1,200, ninth receiving $1,100, and the tenth place finisher being awarded $1,000.

Look for many of the 2003 Utica-Rome regulars to return in 2004 such as Dale Planck, Mitch Gibbs, Todd Burley, Willy Decker, and many more. Matt Sheppard 's status is uncertain with his recent hiring by the Randy Ross owned Ross Motorsports team. Some new faces may make the Utica-Rome Speedway their Sunday night home in an attempt to take part of one the richest seasons in speedway history.

Utica-Rome Speedway operates weekly on Sunday nights throughout late April until mid-September with a weekly show consisting of DIRT 358-Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Four Cylinder Stocks.
