LaGrange, IN -- The United Speed Alliance Racing (USAR) Hooter's ProCup Series completed their first of five championship races last Saturday evening at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, IN.
The Alan Kulwicki Memorial Naturally Fresh Foods 250 had a total of 43 drivers show up for competition. The series entry form allowed for 40 competitors to start the event on time as well as two provisionals for any competitor in the top 10 in final division points that didn't qualify on time for the event. Northern regular, Scott Baker, had to use a provisional due to trouble with their machine during Advanced Auto Parts qualifying. With Baker's trouble a total of 41 competitors took to the track for the start of the event.
17-year-old Joel Kauffman qualified for the race in the 11th position and was caught up in a multi-car wreck early in the race. "I am not sure what happened," said a dejected Kauffman. "I seen the wreck happening in turn 4 and had it cleared but got hit from behind and turned around." Remarked Kauffman. "I am sure that whoever hit me was probably hit from behind as well. It is all part of short track racing. I just hate it for my sponsors and team. We had a good car for this first championship race. We will just regroup this week and get ready for Jennerstown." Concluded Kauffman. The team was able to work on the car and get Kauffman back out to run some laps. Kauffman finished 33rd, 96 laps down. Southern Division driver Shane Huffman won the race.
Team L.A. Motorsports will take their L.A. West Luxury Vehicles, Choo Choo Customs Chevrolet to Jennerstown Speedway for an all day test this Friday in preparation for the second championship race to be held on October 4th. Kauffman's first experience of the track earlier this season was positive. It was the Rookie's first USAR race ever and first time visiting Jennerstown Speedway. He qualified on the outside pole and finished the race in a respectable 8th place.
