Thomasville, NC - BLV Motorsports and 16-year-old Brian Vickers returned to Tri-County Speedway this past Friday night for the USAR ProCup Series Naturally Fresh Foods 250. Brian finished the event in the sixth position and regained his lead in the "Rookie of the Year" standings.
After morning practice, Brian and the crew felt confident they had a good race car for the evening9s event. "This is one of our home tracks. We have a lot of laps around this place and feel we will have a good car for the race," stated Vickers.
Brian and BLV showed they had a good car during the early stages of the event. Vickers jumped into second from his third place qualifying effort and maintained a strong position. During a mid-race caution, which involved race leader Mario Gosselin, Vickers gained the top spot. Brian came into the pits as the leader and let the BLV Motorsports team go to work. However, the #42 Chevrolet Monte Carlo got boxed into the pit stall and lost valuable track position. "That essentially was the race for us, right there. I hate it for my guys. We had a great race car and they had another great stop, and there was nothing we could do to get out of there. It cost us a bunch of track position and Tri-County is a really hard place to pass at, because there are two distinct racing grooves. We worked and worked and got back up into the sixth spot. It is just a shame because I feel we had a car that could have contended for the win. That9s just racing I guess. All in all, it was a pretty good run for us, especially after the tough month of September which we had. We were able to gain points on a lot of the guys in front of us, and we got the lead back in the rookie points battle." The Naturally Fresh Foods 250 from Tri-County Speedway will air on Speedvision Saturday, October 14th at 1:00 PM.
Brian and the BLV Motorsports team will return to Hickory Motor Speedway on October 14th, for the second USAR ProCup Series event at the facility this season. "We are really excited about going back to Hickory. We consider that our home track and love going there. We competed there a lot last year and even ran a few shows this year with the late models. We have a lot of fans and friends at Hickory and I know that they are always happy to see us race there. It would mean a lot to myself and the team to be able to have a good run at Hickory," stated Brian. The Jackaroo Sauces 250 presented by Galaxy Foods at Hickory Motor Speedway will start at 8:00pm on Saturday, October 14th.
