Vickers Stops Gill's Streak

Thomasville, NC - BLV Motorsports and 16-year-old Brian Vickers stopped Bobby Gill¹s winning streak at four victories Saturday, August 5th winning the Miller Lite 250 at Peach State Speedway in Jefferson, Georgia. This is Vickers second USAR Hooters ProCup Series victory of the season and he remains the only rookie to win an event in the 2000 season.
"We were really good right off the truck. Stevie (crew chief Steve Leavitt) and the guys worked on a lot of different things all day in practice to try and hit the right setup for the race," stated Vickers. Vickers was the fastest car in morning practice sessions.
"When we went out to qualify, I left a little bit out there. Everybody was faster on their first lap. We were pretty good though, but we are still after that first pole of the year," stated Brian. Vickers qualified the #42 2-Qwik Performance Shocks Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the third position.
"Bobby has been on a tear the past couple of races and hopefully we will be able to stay out of trouble and be where he always seems to be around lap 250 - in front of everybody else," joked Vickers before the start of the race. Vickers was able to stay toward the front of the field during the early stages of the event. "Chad (pole sitter Chad Chaffin) jumped out to a big lead and we were just riding along there in second saving our tires and car. When the caution came out around halfway, my guys did an excellent job on our pit stop and we got the lead. The guys on my pit crew are awesome, and I know when we come in to pit we are going to gain a lot of track position. This week was no different." Vickers took the lead on lap 136 and was able maintain a healthy lead over second place Gill, until a late race caution bunched the field up with 5 laps left.
"I think Stevie (Leavitt) said it best on the radio - we didn't need that caution, especially with the black car right behind us," Vickers remarked. "I had a great restart and Bobby gave us a run, but we were able to put a little bit of daylight between ourselves and him an hold on for the win. This is a really big win for us. From the Legacy cars until now, we had some bad luck at this place, so I guess we got one back tonight. We have been able to put together a couple of top 5's and top 10's in a row. We just have to keep working hard."
The Miller Lite 250 from Peach State Speedway will air on Speedvision Sunday, August 13th at 8:00 PM. The race will also be broadcast on Sunshine Network Monday, August 14th at 8:00 PM and Home Team Sports on Tuesday, August 15th at 8:00 PM. Brian and BLV Motorsports will return to competition with the USAR Hooters ProCup Series on August 19th at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Virginia.
