Helton and Buescher Ready for Second Round of Pro Cup Season
CONCORD, NC (March 23, 2007) -- In 2006, the Turner Motorsports team earned a championship in the ASA Late Model Series, Southern Division with James Buescher behind the wheel. This season, the team stepped up to the USAR Pro Cup Series with Buescher and Gary Helton each wheeling a car.
It might be a new tour for the team, but their results are similar. Both Pro Cup rookies finished consistently at the season-opener in Florida to start out the season right. Helton was seventh at USA International Speedway, while Buescher was right in his tire tracks, finishing eighth.
The next challenge for the team will come at a track that Buescher and Helton both know quite well. The second event of the pro Cup season will come at South Georgia Motorsports Park on Saturday March 31st.
When he was on his way to a championship in 2006, Buescher competed at South Georgia in the ASA Late Model ranks. Things didn't go exactly as he planned after being caught up in an accident, but the experience at the new track will surely help him as he prepares for his next Pro Cup event.
Helton has also logged some laps at the track. He competed in the 2005 NASCAR Southeast Series event at South Georgia, bringing home an 11th place finish.
"South Georgia is a track that I like a lot," said Buescher. "I ran the ASA Late Model South Race there, and we were fast, we just had some bad luck. We tested our Pro Cup car there and it went really well. South Georgia is one of my favorite tracks. It is a really nice facility and a lot of fun to drive."
Both Helton and Buescher were quick during a recent test session and after the incredible performance they both put on at USA International Speedway, the team expects both cars to be up front once again.
"We have a lot of momentum going into this week," added Buescher. "I think that we could have even done better than we did at Lakeland, but it was the first race for both of us. I think we came out pretty good considering that. We were both really good testing so I think that we will both do pretty good at South Georgia. We definitely have two top-five cars and hopefully that is where we will finish."
