McFarland hopes to continue "family firsts"
MOORESVILLE, NC - (March 8, 2005) - This weekend, Mark McFarland will try to become the second member from the DMP camp to make racing history. Martin Truex, Jr. won the first NASCAR points event to be held outside the United States, in Mexico on Sunday. On Sat. night, McFarland would like nothing more than to become the first winner at the brand-new, half-mile track at South Georgia Motorsports Park, the second stop for the Southern Division of the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series.
"What a great win for Martin and the Chance 2 team. After a couple of laps of the race some of us looked at each other and said 'He looks like he really knows what he's doing," said McFarland. "Nah, Martin is a great racecar driver, I think many people found that out last year."
Many will look to the #32 WINFUEL team to show some resilience after their 27th place finish in Lakeland. McFarland and the team, however, see momentum to be carried over.
"We had a winning car in Lakeland. We know it and quite a few drivers from that night know it too," say McFarland. "Things happen and it does no one any good to dwell on them. We will be ready when we get to Valdosta."
McFarland and the JR Motorsports team did test at SGMP for Sat. night's Hooters Pro Cup 250 and came away pleased and impressed.
"We were happy with the car when we left; we kept getting better all day. We were comparable to the times we heard from the test day the track had."
"They have built a great place to race down here," sounds McFarland. "There are a lot of diehard race fans in this area and they should be proud of what they have."
