Joey Coulter's Fired up about Pro Cup

Joey Coulter is excited about the 2008 Hooters Pro Cup season and can't wait for it to continue at South Georgia Motorsports Park.

He and the entire team were exchanging high-fives after their performance in the March 15 Sears Auto Center 200 presented by All Pro U-Pull-It USAR Hooters Pro Cup Southern Division event at Florida's USA International Speedway.

"We had awesome pit strategy," Coulter said. "We went 125 laps on our tires about 25 more than anybody else and ran as high as second. With the fresh tires and the adjustments made by my crew chief, Todd Myers, we were just tearing our way through the field after our pit stop."

That was until he got tangled up in an accident while running seventh. He eventually finished 26th, completing 177 laps.

The 17-year-old sophomore Pro Cup competitor from Miami Springs, Fla., put the Tempest Cycles/Darrell Gwynn Foundation Ford No. 02s solidly in the field with an 18th-place qualifying run.

"We were going to have a top-five finish," Coulter said. "We were a lot better in the race than we were in practice. Even after wrecking, everybody on the team felt good. This is solid effort, and everybody's on the same page. All the guys were happy with how we ran."

Coulter's next opportunity to have a solid Pro Cup effort will be the March 29 race at South Georgia Motorsports Park.

"We did some testing down there and ran pretty good," Coulter said. "I'm looking forward to it; I think we're going to have a good race."
