Statesville, NC, (June 28, 2004) Rookie USAR series sensation, driver Michelle Theriault and Premiere Motorsports announced that they have parted ways. This will be the second driver that has chosen to leave the veteran USAR race team in the last week.
"Michelle felt that it was time in her career to move to a team that was more serious and committed to winning and willing to put the effort behind it," said James C. Lestorti.
Lestorti, a long time friend of the family, and CEO of LesCare Kitchens Inc., was just named as Theriault's business manager.
These past few months have been busy for the 18 year old. A recent high school graduate, she just announced her intentions to attend the University of Georgia in the fall. Not only has she been racing in the USAR series, she was one of four drivers selected for Ford's USAC test program. She can also be seen in the recently wrapped The Drive on CMT. The Drive is a hit reality series that follows several drivers as they work through the trials and tribulations of becoming a successful race car driver.
Parting with Premiere Motorsports will leave the door open for Theriault to pursue one of the many options she is currently reviewing.
"This gives me the opportunity to start looking at the some of the Busch teams and create a strong development program," said Theriault.
Already, Theriault is working with a Busch team, learning the differences between driving a USAR series stock car and Busch car. There are also several Busch teams that are talking to Theriault about starting a program that will field a team for the USAR series and eventually take that team in the Busch series.
"There is a lot of opportunity for Michelle at this time. She is a talented driver and has a lot of ambition to do well. We just need to make sure we select a team that is just as motivated as she is," said Lestorti.
For this 18 year old, this is shaping up to be a busy summer indeed.
