According to Newton's Law, an object in motion tends to stay in motion. The same can be said of driver Shane Huffman and Team Johnsonville Racing, as they are gaining more momentum during the 2000 USAR ProCup season. Saturday night's State Fair Brand Mini Corn Dogs 250 marked the rookie driver's second consecutive top 15 finish and, more importantly, was another strong, up-front run for the team known as "The Brat Bunch". Huffman took the green flag from an inauspicious 19th place starting position, but it was quickly evident that he would be a car to be dealt with as the Hickory, N.C. native steamrolled his way to 12th place by lap 47. Huffman continued his charge to the front, cracking the top 5 on lap 84 and remaining there until bringing his Johnsonville Ford Taurus to pit road for service during a caution period at lap 140. Huffman exited the pits in 13th, and looked poised for another run to the front as the green flag waved on lap 144 for the restart. The team's hopes for a win were short-lived however, the victim of contact with a lapped car on lap 152, leaving Huffman to fight an ill-handling racecar for the rest of the evening. "We were real happy with how the car ran tonight," said an exhausted Huffman, "We've made a lot of changes to the set-up on this car, and any time you do that you're taking a chance, so it's good to know we're headed in the right direction." "I think we're turning the corner on this season, and our qualifying and race results are starting to show that," stated Shane, "The team and I both feel like we can run with these guys, but you've got to crawl before you can walk. We've run up front some now, so when we're in that situation, we know better how to react." Shane and Team Johnsonville Racing will be returning to action Saturday, September 2, when the USAR ProCup Series makes it's third visit of the season to USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Fla.
