GREENSBURG, PA (July 25) ........ Jason Mignogna hopes the third time is the charm regarding his initial venture into the United Speed Alliance Racing (USAR) Hooters Pro Cup Northern Series, as he has filed an entry for the Aug. 2 contest at the South Boston (VA) Speedway.
At this point of the season Mignogna, a top ranked driver for the past 10-years in the Midwest-based Iceman Super Car Series, had hoped to have at least three USAR starts under his belt. However, a preseason testing crash altered those plans.
"To say that our season has not gone according to plan is an understatement," Mignogna said, "we destroyed our car testing at Motordrome (PA) in April, so we were forced to miss scheduled races at Jennerstown and Mansfield. Our new car wasn't completed in time for the Kil-Kare race, so the season for us is now starting in August."
The 30-year old Greensburg driver has put the early season problems behind him, and is now concentrating on turning in a strong performance in his South Boston debut.
"The team tested at South Boston two weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier with our new Carl Wegner-powered, Hess-chassis car," stated Mignogna, "I consistently turned competitive lap times in both the lower and upper racing grooves. The car worked great. If we turn a good qualifying lap, and can stay out of trouble, I feel we can run with the front of the pack."
Mignogna's plans for the remainder of the season include competing in the Sept. 5 USAR event at Motordrome. At that point the Mignogna Collision Center team will evaluate their performance and make plans for the 2004 campaign.
"I want to use the South Boston and Motordrome races to get a feel for the series," Mignogna concluded, "our goal is to run a full-time schedule next year. We are talking to a couple of marketing partners, so we'll have to see what happens."
Associate sponsors for Mignogna's USAR schedule include: Wegner Automotive, L.A. Collision, Model Uniforms, Wurth USA, The Sign Shoppe, and Turner Airstream.
