Cameron Dodson Set for USAR Hooters Pro Cup Debut at South Boston Speedway in May's Motorsports No. 14N
Athens, GA - Open wheel standout Cameron Dodson begins a new chapter of his racing career this weekend in his debut behind the wheel of the No. 14N Elite Collision Center Dupont Performance Coatings Joie of Seating Chevrolet Monte Carlo fielded by May's Motorsports at South Boston Speedway. The Aaron's 250 Presented by Lance Kelly Designs is the season opening event for the USAR (United Speed Alliance Racing) Hooters Pro Cup Series Northern Division.
Dodson will begin his quest to capture the Series Rookie of the Year honors, his third such goal in as many seasons. In 2004, at just 16 years of age, Dodson captured the ROTY crown as well as the series championship crowns in the Mid American Sprint Series. In 2005, the 17-year old repeated the feat in Auto Value/Bumper-to-Bumper Super Sprint Series (AVSS), capturing both the ROTY and the championship.
"I am real excited about this weekend's race," said Dodson. I know that I am facing a new level of competition in Hooters Pro Cup, but I am looking forward to this next step in my racing career and the opportunity to learn from the great drivers in this series.
"Last season's Hooters Pro Cup champion Benny Gordon won the South Boston event. That sets the tone for the challenge I have in front of me. My goal for the weekend is to finish every lap of the race and learn as much as I can, while earning the respect of the other drivers."
Team owner and crew chief Kirk May, an Athens, GA native with business interests in the area, started May's Motorsports in late 2003 to begin full-time competition in Hooters Pro Cup at the 2004 season-opening event. May is ready to get the season underway.
"I am excited to get to the track after a long winter of preparing for the season", said May. "We are all pumped up about having Cameron in our car and can hardly wait to see what he can do in competition. We have been amazed at how quickly he has taken to these cars during our testing so if we can have a little racing luck go our way, I really feel we are going to be off to a great season."
"I can hardly wait to get started with our racing season", Dodson concluded. "I am looking forward to running a stock car and am excited to be competing in the Hooters Pro Cup Series. I have been very fortunate in my open wheel racing to have had success driving great cars for great owners. I am going to apply that experience to this new opportunity and give 110% to Kirk and everyone involved with May's Motorsports to achieve the success they deserve. I know it is a learning curve, but I have the right people and equipment to make the transition from open wheel cars to stock cars."
