HICKORY, N.C. -- Although the Ford Taurus of driver Shane Huffman sits on jack stands in a corner of the shop instead of on a racetrack, things at Team Johnsonville Racing have not slowed down since the checkered flag fell on the 2000 USAR Hooters ProCup season.
The month of December brought about a massive reorganization effort, which now has the team running under the moniker of XTRA Motorsports and based in Hickory, N.C. Rounding out the personnel changes, TJR hopes to have added the final piece to the team chemistry puzzle with the hiring Monday of crew chief Ronnie White.
White's move to TJR comes after spending the last four seasons as a chassis specialist with the #77 Lear sponsored PRW Racing team on the Busch Grand National Series. His resume also includes various stints in the Hooters ProCup Series along the way.
"We feel Ronnie's experience is going to be a great asset to our team," said Carroll Watts, co-team owner of XTRA Motorsports. "Having someone full-time to focus on the preparation of the car will allow us to do the things it's going to take, like testing, to run a program that we, and Johnsonville, will be proud of.
"I'm excited to be involved with an organization like Team Johnsonville and XTRA Motorsports," said White. "They're looking to make the changes necessary to be a contender in the ProCup Series, and I just want to win. I know Shane and everyone here feels the same way, and I hope what I bring to the table will help take us to that next level."
