GRAMMY AWARD NOMINEE MICHAEL PETERSON NAMED GRAND MARSHALL FOR USARacing's PRO CUP SERIES SEASON OPENER
CONCORD, NC -- March 25, 2009 -- Nashville 's Michael Peterson, Grammy award nominee and country music performing artist, has been named Grand Marshall for the USARacing Concord 250 Pro Cup Series event to be held April 4 at Concord (NC) Speedway . He will also perform the National Anthem prior to the first event of the 2009 schedule.
"Michael Peterson performed for Bobby Labonte's celebrity benefit for a couple of years and literally "wowed" everyone at that event. We found out that he was in the area (a show in Jacksonville, NC on April 3) and we invited him to come and kick off our new season," said USARacing President Jack McNelly. bThey tell me no one sings the National Anthem any better. So we think the fans will enjoy meeting him and listening to him perform," he added.
Said Peterson: bI love racing and race fans because they fit each other so well. I'm really proud to be on hand for the Pro Cup Series debut. It's my hope that we get to hang out with these guys a lot more in the future."
Michael Peterson catapulted into the national spotlight in 1997 on the success of the hit single, "Drink, Swear, Steal & Lie' and his follow up release, "From Here To Eternity," which became his first #1 hit as an artist and second as a songwriter. The self-titled debut disc was certified gold and he was recognized as country music's top selling new male artist of 1997 and 1998. Peterson has moved sold-out audiences all over the globe for nearly a decade.
Prior to his career in country music, this national champion collegiate football player spent twelve years teaching hundreds of thousands of Jr. High and Sr. High School students across North America "How To Live With Uncertainty And Not Be Paralyzed By Fear." He is a contributing author to the New York Times best selling "Chicken Soup For The Soul" series which released two new books in 2006. He is a proven hit songwriter with multiple #1 songs in gospel and country both in the U.S. and Europe . His songs have been recorded by multiple Grammy winning superstars like Travis Tritt, Timothy B. Shmitt from The Eagles and Deniece "Let's Hear It For The Boy" Williams.
In January, 2008 Peterson launched a national tour promoting the strength and values of America and its citizens. The "My Real Life -- Strong For America Tour," is presented by the U.S. Army, challenges students, civic and business leaders and other community members to engage in building their community through several free initiatives and programs.
