Tim Bainey Jr. Soldiers on after Rough Start

Osceola Mills, PA-Tim Bainey Jr. and the No. 15 Greased Lightning Racing Team came home with a 16th-place finish in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series "Lucas Oil 250" at Salem Speedway.

"We had a great car today," said Tim Jr. "We are really getting things figured out - I think we turned a corner here with some stuff this weekend - and it's the right time of year for that."

The Greased Lightning Racing Team turned a few really fast corners during the day as they had the No. 15 at the front of the field after Advanced Auto Parts Qualifying with Tim Jr. posting the eighth fastest time of the day.

When the green flag waved, the top-10 cars worked there way into a single file line that would circle the half-mile track at speeds reaching over 130 miles per hour. The Greased Lightning No. 15 settled into 7th for the first few laps, but then as Tim Jr. worked through the center of Turn 4, his car broke loose. The No. 15 turned sideways and slid across the track where Tim Jr. made hard contact with the end of the pit road wall - stopping almost instantly with the impact.

Tim Jr. was ok, but the Greased Lightning Car sustained heavy damage. The team took the car behind pit wall to look over things.

"That was a hard hit," said Tim Jr. "When you're running on the edge like we do every week - it only takes one small slip and something like that happens. It's not fun when it does, but that's a part of racing."

The Greased Lightning Crew went to work.

"We know Salem is a track that has a lot of accidents," Said Crew Chief Dan Bainey. "We are up in the point battle, and we want to stay there - we got together and the guys went to work."

The repairs were extensive taking nearly 40 laps to replace the much of the rear suspension, but it would prove to pay off tremendously over the course of the night.

Tim Jr. would return to the track and the Greased Lightning Team would spend the rest of the night counting laps and positions. They were 28th after Tim Jr.'s accident, and would finish the night 16th after the 250 laps were complete.

"These guys in our Greased Lightning Crew are awesome," said Tim Jr. "They are behind us 100% every week and they want it as bad as I do. I can't say enough about them - Meat, Seth, RJ, Randy, Rob, Doug, Douggie, Doug, and Gray - they did what they have been doing every race this season - giving it everything they have - and that picked us up 12 spots tonight - it really helped us in the points, and it boosted our momentum like nothing else could tonight."

The team is currently 11th in the Chase for the 2005 USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series Championship. The next event for the Greased Lightning Team will be Saturday, August 6 at South Boston Speedway where the team finished ninth earlier this year.

You can catch the "Lucas Oil 250" broadcast from Salem this Saturday, August 6 at 10 p.m. on the Speed Channel. Don't forget to tune in and catch all the action from the weekend's event.
