Hudson, NC - Despite adverse track conditions, Stacy Puryear logged in, according to speed charts, the seventh fastest time after practice at Tri County Speedway in Hudson, NC this past weekend and qualified 27th. Puryear, who had been looking to qualify in the top five, attributed the poor qualifying to oil dropped on the track early in the qualifying period. He pointed out that driver Bill Plemons backed his car into a wall for the same reason. During the race, Puryear moved steadily through the field, making an early pit stop on lap 77. The Black's Tire crew moved quickly and Puryear was the first one out, moving into the top-10 by the time a caution flag was waved on lap 120. The top-10 cars pitted, handing Puryear the lead on lap 121 and allowing him to bring home the $1,000 Lucas Oil Halfway Leader Award for the first time during the series season. Puryear's luck held until lap 231, when the transmission broke, 19 laps from the finish. At the time, he was being heavily challenged by Hal Goodson and Bobby Gill. Goodson inherited the lead and went on to win his second USAR Hooters ProCup Series event. After leading 110 laps, he finished 24th and holds on to 13th place in points. For the second consecutive race, Puryear had one of the fastest cars on the track and had been in a position to win his first USAR ProCup race. Puryear had victory in sight at Ace Speedway and was leading when he and Mario Gosselin got together with only 18 laps to go. Puryear has one pole, two outside poles, started third twice, has three top-five finishes, six top-10 finishes and led in four of the last six races.
