FAYETTEVILLE, GA -- Be ready to rumble as the United Speed Alliance Racing Hooters ProCup Series returns to St. Augustine Speedway for the Lucas Oil Products 250. With only two races left in the 20-race $1.5 million Series, points positions are up for grabs as the stars and cars of the USAR take to the half-mile oval in America's oldest city on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.
Current USAR Hooters ProCup Series points leader Bobby Gill, piloting his No. 5 Naturally Fresh Foods Ford Taurus, will be facing 35 other contenders for the winners share of $81,750 in posted awards.
For many drivers, there is more at stake than going home with a win. Gill currently leads Jay Fogleman in the points by 220 points, while Steven Christian leads Mardy Lindley by 188 points in the Miller Lite Rookie of the Year race. Battles are raging throughout the top-20 points positions as drivers jockey for positions closest to the head table at the end of season banquet. Currently, with the possibility of as many as eleven positions changing hands, there are 101 points between Jeff Agnew in the fifth postition and Lindley in ninth, while a 149-point differential exists between Tim Clayton in thirteenth and Jabe Jones in eighteenth.
Thirty-six drivers are scheduled to take the green flag on the high-banked half-mile oval in St. Augustine. Race fans should prepare themselves for close-quarters racing that begins with the Discount Auto Parts Pole Qualifying at 4:30 p.m. Thirty-two drivers will make the race on time and four provisional spots will complete the starting grid, followed by an autograph session with the stars of the Hooters ProCup Series on the front-stretch at 6 p.m. Then the most famous words in motorsports will bring to life the roar of thirty-six 3400-lbs steel-bodied stock cars that will thunder down the front stretch for the green flag of the Lucas Oil Products 250 at 7 p.m. Local racing to follow.
