Gaita overcomes setback at Five Flags Speedway.

PENSACOLA, FL -- After celebrating his win at USA International Speedway to begin the 2003 season, Joe Gaita knew getting ACS Systems Engineering/Kimnach Ford into victory lane for the second time in a row was a tall order. It turned out to be true.

Gaita entered the race and quickly found out how challenging Five Flags Speedway can be as completed his first qualifying lap. Gaita, hit the outside wall during qualifying and his team worked to get the car fixed in time to start the race. Gaita finished 16th, which was good considering he could have missed the race altogether.

"This shows how dedicated this team is for us," said Gaita watching his crew work on the car. "The sun got into my eyes going into turn three and I lost my line in the turn and by the time I got into turn four I was already in trouble."

Gaita entered the race leading the points and hoping to ride the momentum of his first win, something he hopes to repeat.

"We have a great team and we will get this car fixed and be ready for New Smyrna Speedway in a couple of weeks," said Gaita. "The car actually drove okay during the race -- it would have been nice to see what we could have done if I hadn't got into the wall."

Gaita was concerned coming to Five Flags Speedway having heard how challenging the track was to veterans much less a first-time competitor. Gaita must have figured something as he finished the practice session with the fastest time of the morning.
