Bobby Gill enjoys the taste of victory.
Jefferson, GA-- Bobby Gill continued his winning streak at Peach State Speedway on Friday May 10, winning the Naturally Fresh Foods 250 presented by ANECO. Gill, driver of the #5 Carrera Shocks/Triple Diamond Enterprises Ford, started the race in third position. Jason Sarvis took the pole position with a time of 18.856 seconds and an average speed of 95.460 mph.
As the green flag flew, Sarvis, driver of the #22 Naturally Fresh Foods/Black's Tire Service Chevrolet, took the early lead and held it for the first 10 laps. The first caution of the night occurred on lap 11 when Mart Nesbitt's #30 Blue Cross-Blue Shield Chevrolet blew the engine in turn three. When the field returned under the green flag, Gill was in the lead, until lap 127.
On lap 153, the eighth caution flag of the night flew as the #61 Crewschool.com Chevrolet, driven by J.P. Morgan, hit the outside front straight retaining wall, sending him sliding into the inside retaining wall. The car suffered extensive damage but Morgan and the crew remained in the race, finishing in 21st position. During the caution flag, Gill brought the #5 Ford onto pit road for his only pit stop of the night. Eleven laps later, Gill returned to the lead and never looked back as he collected his 24th career USAR Hooters ProCup victory and his sixth in the 2002 season.
Sarvis collected second position; Kertus Davis came home third. Hal Goodson, and Toby Robertson rounded out the top-five finishers. Buford, GA's Steven Christian finished sixth, and John Kinder, seventh, Rodney Childers collected the Miller Lite Rookie of the Race award, finishing eighth. Rookie point leader Billy Mowery finished ninth and Andrew Medlin rounded out the top 10.
Gill also collected the Lucas Oil Half-Way Leader Award by leading lap 125; he also collected the Southern Pride Lap Leader Award by leading 201 laps out of 250. Team RBR and the #22 collected the CV Products Engine Builder of the Race Award.
The next stop for the USAR Hooters ProCup Southern Division will be June 1 at USA International Speedway, in Lakeland, FL for the running of the Jackaroo Sauces 250 presented by Discount Auto Parts. Gill has won the past USAR four races held at the ¾ mile track. The USAR Hooters ProCup Northern Division will be at Salem Speedway on Sunday, May 19.
