NEW STANTON, PA - (March 23, 2003) Hoping to build on their initial showing at USA International at the season opening Southern Division race, Mario Gosselin and Hurricane Motorsports out of New Stanton, Pennsylvania are looking forward to the upcoming race at New Smyrna to prove they intend on brewing up a storm in ProCup.
"We were both pleased and disappointed with the first race", said Butch Shaffer, spokesman for the team. "Mario was just terrific and we certainly had a car that could have won the race. We just had a few miscues throughout the day and in the race itself that cost us a bit. We also had a bit of bad luck with a flat under green that put us behind, but overall I think it was a good experience for us and will make us even more determined to do everything we can to help get Mario into Victory Lane."
Gosselin qualified 2nd and sat on the front row at USA International missing the pole by only .008 seconds. In the race itself he led a total of 35 laps swapping places with Stacy Puryear, Shane Wallace, Joe Gaita, and Michael Ritch.
The car was good and he felt he could have won with the car had it not been for an untimely tire puncture during the race which cost the team a couple of laps. As disappointing as that was, the team is confident that they can get their car up front and keep it there in the races to come.
"We're looking forward to this season and are currently talking to a number of potential sponsors. We've got some terrific off track marketing programs and with the way Mario drives, we're sure our sponsor will get a lot of great exposure throughout the season. Things are building up right now and we're excited about it", said Shaffer. With the team's performance in the first race and their desire and drive, Mario certainly has a crew devoted to getting him to the front and keeping him there. If their luck can hold at New Smyrna, you better batten down the hatches because there's a Hurricane coming and their aiming for Victory Lane!
