"The Man" is back!

Charlotte, NC, (March 30, 2003) -- Bobby Gill showed no residual effects from his recent shoulder surgery as he registered his first victory of the 2003 season at New Smyrna Beach this weekend. Gill, who qualified the Triple Diamond Jet Center Ford sixteenth earlier in the day, held off Shane Huffman for the win in a single file restart Saturday night.

At the green, Gill immediately began his move to the front of the pack. By lap 97, the #5 showed second. Taking four tires on a lap 107 pit stop, the Dalton, Georgia driver came out and began to weave his way through lapped traffic to lead on lap 129. By lap 190, Gill had easily outdistanced the second place entry by more than half a lap. Gill continued to pace the field until he ducked into the pits on lap 241 for fresh tires before lining up for the final restart.

After missing the season-opener at Lakeland and being sidelined at Pensacola due to mechanical problems, this win was a timely one for the three-time USAR Series champ. "We knew we had a good chance to win", said Gill. "We made a few changes during our first pit stop and came back out strong. Even though we were still fast at the end, we knew we had to get tires too because everyone else did. And it worked for us"
