Fogleman Second at Motor Mile

Jay Fogleman drove the JFco Motorsports, V2 Performance, Lucas Oil Products Ford No. 4 to a second-place finish in the USAR Hooters ProCup North Division Lucas Oil 250 presented by Shelor Outdoor Motor Mile/Ranger Boats on July 17 at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va.

The Durham, N.C., racer started 27th after rain cancelled qualifying, and quickly charged his way through the field to co-win the Hard Charger Award.

"We had a good night," Fogleman said. "We did what we needed to do. Me and (crew chief Steve Bird) talked about it as the race was going on, we know exactly what we need to do when we come back here (for the championship-series event); we need to fix that little tight spot in the center (of the corner)."

Normally a ProCup South competitor, Fogleman entered the race to test for later in the year. But he almost chose not to compete rather than risk tearing up a car coming through the field from 27th.

"But I felt like we needed to run the car," Fogleman said. "Everything went well all day long, but I would have really liked to have won the race here. My car was good on the long run. About the time I got to him (race winner Benny Gordon) to where I could do anything with him, a caution came out. I called on the radio and said, 'Well, that was our shot.'

"It was good for Upchurch Engineering to run good, good for (car builder) Billy Hess to run good, good for Lucas Oil 0x2022 all these people put a tremendous amount into my racing effort, and it's good to pay them back with a good run," Fogleman said.
