Myrtle Beach, SC -- When USAR Hooters ProCup Series Southern Division heads to Myrtle Beach Speedway this weekend for the running of the Jackaroo Sauces 250 presented by Black's Tire Service, there will extra incentive for many drivers to attempt to qualify.
For the first time since 1998 the track will host two USAR Hooters ProCup Series races. The second stop will be held in October as part of the Four Champions Championship Series. The five-race season-ending format will determine the 2001 National Championship, which means the race this weekend could provide vital information to teams for the race in October.
Mario Gosselin and Mardy Lindley, the two most recent winners at Myrtle Beach Speedway, will return to action. Gosselin will be there looking to improve on his position in the Southern Division points standings while Lindley looks to defend his title from one year ago at the track that gave him his first-career win in the Series.
Jason Sarvis looks forward to this weekend as the 1999 Myrtle Beach track champion returns home for the first time this season.
"I am really excited about this weekend," said Sarvis. "I was fortunate enough to win a track championship in 1999 at the track and our race team also won a track championship there in 1998 so we have the experience of getting around the track."
Sarvis and his Bryant/Black's Tire Service Chevrolet team, owned by Ricky Benton, will also serve as presenting sponsor for the event along with title sponsor Jackaroo Sauces.
"We are very excited about this weekend," added Benton. "We will have to pull double-duty this weekend as a team getting our car ready and also setting up our hospitality event planned at the speedway on Saturday afternoon."
Another driver looking forward to competing this weekend is Dell Murphy. The Rose Hill, North Carolina driver is looking forward to returning to his home track as well and hopes to improve from his career-best qualifying effort at Peach State several weeks ago.
"We would love to put the Jackaroo Sauces car up front," added Murphy. "We are fortunate to have a great sponsor in Jackaroo Sauces and we want to give them a good showing in front of a lot of our fans."
Black's Tire Service has also scheduled a charity golf benefit Friday afternoon to raise awareness and funds for the ProCup Wives Auxiliary.
"We are fortunate to have the ability to set up this golf tournament with Racoon Run Golf Club," Benton said. "We want to have a fun afternoon with everyone and also raise money for a very worthwhile cause. The women's auxiliary is always there for the competitors and members of USAR and we are honored to help them any way we can."
Pit Gates open at 8 a.m. with practice beginning at 11 a.m. The teams will compete for the Lance Snacks Pole award beginning at 5 p.m., then the green flag will fall for the Jackaroo Sauces 250 presented by Black's Tire Service at 7:30 p.m. followed by the Allison Legacy Series.
