FAYETTEVILLE, GA. (May 12, 2000) – United Speed Alliance Racing, Inc. has announced penalties for rules infractions that occurred at Myrtle Beach Speedway during the running of the Mark Brooks Memorial/Hooters 250. Gene Cox, president of USAR, announced the penalties Friday morning.

"During post-race inspection, USAR officials found several irregularities during inspection of the tires on the winning car," said Cox. "Since there is so much on the line for our competitors we felt it necessary to seek an independent laboratory to confirm our findings. After testing the tires, the laboratory determined the tread of the tire had been altered by an unauthorized treatment."

As a result of the laboratories findings, USAR has fined driver Mike Laughlin, Jr. $5,000 plus loss of any championship points gained by his finish at Myrtle Beach. Laughlin, Jr., his crew chief, and car owner will also be suspended for three events.
