JENNERTSTOWN, PA/CHERRY HILL, NJ April 5, 2003 . . . As the USAR Hooters Pro Tour stock cars kick off their Northern Tour at Jennerstown, PA Speedway on Saturday, April 12th, young Tom Hessert III will be using the 250-lap race to test his talents in a stock car for the first time.

The Cherry Hill, NJ racer, now in his second season of running on the United States Auto Club Championship Midget Tour, will team up with Danny Sammons in a two car effort. Hessert will be in a black 2002 Ford Taurus (No. 89) with sponsorship support from Cherry Hill Classic Cars (Cherry Hill, NJ) and Fred Kennedy Truck Sales & Service, (Delran, NJ).

Sammons, who has a full season of experience in Hooters Pro Tour competition, will be in the primary team car being fielded by Len Sammons and his HeartAttack team. Sponsorship for the Sammons entry will come from Kennedy Truck Sales & Service along with Tommy Gale Haulmark Trailers.

"We are hoping to get a test session in before the race, probably somewhere in North or South Carolina. It would be great to have some track time before we head to the race and make a qualifying effort. Our planned session last Friday in Jennerstown was cancelled because of the wet weather. I am really excited about this opportunity to team with Danny Sammons. He is going to be able to give me a lot of valuable advice as I try stock car racing for the first time. This is another step forward for me as I grow my racing experience," said the Cherry Hill (N.J.) East high school student.

"I appreciate that the Sammons family has thought enough of my talents to let me run their Ford Taurus at Jennerstown Speedway. Hopefully things will go well and we will have the opportunity to do some more stock car racing. And like many others we are looking for sponsorship support for future efforts so the TV exposure will be a big help."

Sammons, who lead 51 laps of the Hooters Pro Tour event at Lakeland, Florida a few weeks back before he was involved in an accident with a lapped car, is anxious to get to Jennerstown. "I think we can be a factor in the race. In fact I think we have what it takes to be a winner. And I think we can give chase for the Tour championship," said the 19-year-old racer.

The HeartAttack Team will have two full pit crews at Jennerstown Speedway to make sure both drivers get quick attention during pit stops. The Jennerstown race, a 250 lap event, will be taped by SpeedChannel for showing on Thursday, April 17th at 7 p.m. And on Friday, April 18th, noon (lunch time) the race will be shown in Hooter's Restaurants.

Hessert will continue his travels after the Jennerstown Speedway event as he heads to Madera, California for a USAC National Championship Midget race. And he will earn even more airline miles as he returns to California on Saturday, April 26th to participate in the highly publicized Mopar Twin 25 USAC National Championship Midget race at Irwindale, CA. Speedway. The two 25-lap features offers a $50,000 bonus to the driver who can win both.

Earlier this year the 16-year-old racer became the youngest driver ever to run in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona Endurance race. He and his father, Tom Jr., were able to be part of a Racer's Group Porsche team. Tom Jr. is a former sports car racing champion who dabbled in some NASCAR Busch and Winston Cup competition.
