Pepsi 250 will be the first of two stops for the Series at MMS in 2004
Longs, SC - The Northern Division competitors of the USAR Hooters ProCup Series return to the beautiful Mansfield Motorsports Speedway for the Pepsi 250 presented by Joyce Buick & Saturn on Saturday July 31st and if last year's race is any indication the fans will be in for a treat. Last season nearly 9,000 fans weathered a cool and rainy afternoon to see Eric Corbett win the first-ever Hooters ProCup Series race at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway.
While the best of the USAR Hooters ProCup Series Northern Division drivers are expected to enter the race, several Southern Division competitors are expected to enter the race to gain valuable practice time when the Series returns to the beautiful facility in October for a Championship Series event.
This season Johnny Rumley has led the Northern Division points lead since the second race on the schedule and while he still leads, Benny Gordon has charged his way into the top-three in the standings and could make a run for the number one seed from the North going into the five-race playoff.
Brian Ross finished second to Corbett last year and should be a strong contender for the win at Mansfield again this year in his new ride. Ross, who won Miller Lite Rookie of the Year honors in 2002 driving for Odle Motorsports, switched rides after Kil-Kare and now drives for Premiere Motorsports.
The Pepsi 250 presented by Joyce Buick & Saturn will be the ninth race of a 12-race schedule for the Northern Division competitors and will probably help determine who is on contention for one of the top-five spots in the standings. One driver who hopes to be in the top-five in the standings is Glenn Gault.
Gault has enjoyed a breakout year in the Series with six top-10 finishes in the last seven races and the veteran is looking forward to racing in his home state.
"We look forward to running at Mansfield," said Gault. "We have had a good car this year and we keep improving each week. Hopefully we will have something for them at Mansfield."
The Pepsi 250 presented by Joyce Buick & Saturn activities will begin qualifying at 4:30 pm with an autograph session scheduled for 5:54 pm and the race starting at 7 pm. For more information please contact Mansfield Motorsports Speedway at 800-424-0688.
