William Long III Joins Nesbitt Racing's DDP
Asheville, NC-Nesbitt Racing Enterprises, Inc. is proud to announce that we have selected William Long III to participate in the 2005 Driver Development Program for the 2005 USAR racing season.
Nesbitt Racing Enterprises, Inc. is an established race team in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series and has over 14 years of racing experience. The team has won numerous Championships, races, and poles over this time period. Nesbitt Racing is once again poised to compete for the 2005 USAR Championship.
The owner/driver, Mart Nesbitt, has shown a keen ability to mentor and train young up and coming drivers as they aspire to further their racing careers. "Through my 15 years of racing, I have gained a vast knowledge of both the business and driving parts of racing," said Nesbitt. "I enjoy being able to share my experiences with young drivers to hopefully speed up their learning curve. In addition, we are constantly looking at drivers that deserve a break."
For 2005, 19-year-old William Long III, an accomplished racer from Flint, MI, will get that break.
"We selected William based on his overall desire to race and his proven past performance," aid Nesbitt. "He has raced everything from cars to motorcycles to snowmobiles and has excelled in every one of them. You don't see that very often."
The Driver Development Program will not only focus on driving but all aspects of competing and operating a top touring-level race team. He will work full time at the shop and on race weekends as well as testing extensively throughout the season. He will get to meet and interact with many Pro Cup teams throughout the year, learn the marketing and public relations aspects, and participate on the pit crew when he is not racing.
In addition to testing throughout the year, Long III will compete in up to five USAR events in 2005. The team is currently looking for both primary and associate sponsors to assist in Long's five races. The dates and location of these races are not yet finalized.
When asked about what's next, Nesbitt replied, "Assuming William is successful in the program in 2005, we will look for opportunities to race him full-time in 2006. That would be a win-win situation for everyone."
Long's experience begins February 27th at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, FL.
