Perfect Week Ends in Victory for Kauffman
Tuesday, May 3, 2005 -- Mooresville, NC- A great week got even better for Joel Kauffman and the Team L.A. Motorsports No. 44 Pontiac, as the Indiana native won the Food City 250 at Lonesome Pine Raceway.
The wet and foggy conditions couldn't dampen the emotions of Kauffman and his crew. The week began with the Mooresville team signing a new sponsor for the race, Blue Ridge Technology. Kauffman proved the investment to be a wise one for the company, based out of Bristol, Va. The 2003 Hooters Pro Cup Northern Series Rookie of the Year led 101 laps and grabbed the second Pro Cup victory of his career.
"I'm really happy for Blue Ridge Technology and their owner, Stephen Powers," said Kauffman. "Mr. Powers drove over from Bristol to watch the race and I'm glad we could put on a good show for him. Now we're ready to go to IRP and build on this momentum."
Kauffman said that Saturday's victory was the result of an extensive rebuilding program.
"The guys worked fifteen hour days getting ready for the season. We moved into a new shop, hired Barry Elvis as our new crew chief and brought Blair Minton on as our new Director of Marketing. We wanted to come into the season with all of our bases covered and that effort is paying off."
Next up for the 19-year-old is a return to his home state and Indianapolis Raceway Park. After a sixth-place finish and a victory in the season's first two races, Kauffman is ready for the trip.
"Barry Elvis has given me some great cars,' Kauffman said. "The cars are handling well and have a ton of horsepower. We feel like we can win anywhere and that makes you want you want to get back out on the track."
