Former Open Wheel Champion's Continues Quest for USAR Hooters Pro Cup Northern Division Rookie of the Year Award
North East, PA - Cameron Dodson is set for the challenge of this weekend's United Speed Alliance Racing (USAR) Hooters Pro Cup Northern Division competition at Lake Erie Speedway, North East, PA.
The USAR Rookie of the Year contender feels his No.14N May's Motorsports Elite Collision Center DuPont Performance Coatings Joie of Seating Chevrolet Monte Carlo team is well prepared for the hurdle of his facing another brand new race track. Dodson has never seen, much less driven on the .375-mile, slightly-banked asphalt oval.
"The weekend will be another new race track for me," said Dodson. "But with the experience Lee (McCallister, crew chief) and Kirk (May, team owner) have on these Northern Division tracks, I know I will have a good car to drive. It is up to me to get comfortable and up to speed as quickly as possible.
"It makes a huge difference having the support I have with this team. It helps my confidence in making the change from the driving style I have in open wheel cars to the driving style I need in my Hooters Cup car. Lee knows what these cars need and he is patient and willing to help me adapt to what I need to do as the driver.
"But it isn't easy in this series because there are so many great drivers. The competition is tough every single race. I am learning from following and racing with the best."
The Miller Lite 250 Presented by Longhorn is race number eight of the 12-race USAR Northern Division 2006 season and scheduled to run 250 laps/94 miles. Practice will begin Friday at 12:30 p.m. EDT for two hours. Qualifying will start at 5:30 p.m. and the race start-time is Friday at 8:00 p.m. EDT. SPEED TV will show the race in its entirety via tape-delay broadcast. Check www.usarprocup.com for date and time.
The event is set for a 32 car starting field with 34 cars possible. The fastest 28 cars make the starting field through time trials. There are two provisional positions for top-30 from 2006 Northern Division driver points standings; two provisional positions for 2006 Northern Division top-30 car owner points standings and two provisional starting positions available for a past Hooters Pro Cup Series champion or rookie of the year (only if necessary).
