WINFUEL Team Meeting Self-Expectations
Ace Speedway test offers more promise
Tuesday, May 3, 2005 -- Mooresville, NC- One week after their first top-five in USAR Hooters Pro Cup competition, the No. 32 WINFUEL team participated in the open test at Ace Speedway on Saturday. While rain cut the session short, driver Mark McFarland believes he saw enough to keep the momentum going in Friday night's BFGoodrich Tires 250.
"We were once again fast off the truck; the fastest, actually, on our watch," said McFarland. "It was cloudy all day so speeds may not be that fast this weekend."
"It's a bullring; you're going to be in traffic all night."
"We're running well right now, it would be nice to get a win before heading back to Lakeland," said McFarland.
After taking a few races to iron out the new-team kinks, the JR Motorsports crew has picked a good time to hit a stride. While the standings don't show it McFarland has picked up lots of points on the drivers ahead of him. He still sits 11th in points, but now he is only one point out of the top-10 and 120 points behind leader Clay Rogers.
According to crew chief Jefferson Hodges, this is where the team feels it should be each race.
"We're starting to get the finishes we expect get," said Hodges. "It's foolish to think you're going to win every race, but we expect to be in the top-five every race. We want a win before heading to Lakeland because we feel really good about our chances down there."
McFarland is just happy to see the hard work of the team beginning to pay off.
"We're finally beginning to show how strong of a team we have at JR Motorsports. Our WINFUEL Chevys have been great. We're fast everywhere we go," sounded McFarland.
"If we continue to be as strong as we have been the wins and top-fives will come.
