Jennerstown to begin Northern Division schedule.
MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- While the northeastern United States has endured a harsh winter with record cold temperatures and snowfall, there are some signs that spring is just around the corner and one of those signs is the annual race at Jennerstown Speedway to begin the USAR Hooters ProCup Series Northern Division schedule.
The Lucas Oil 250 will be the first of 12 regular season races for the Northern Division competitors who begin their third season in the division. The division will race at Jennerstown Speedway twice in 2003 with the second date scheduled for Saturday, October 4th on the second stop of the five-race Championship Series.
One Northern Division driver looking forward to returning to the fast one-half mile track is driver of the NGA Hooters Golf Tour Chevrolet, Jeff Agnew. Agnew is one of just two drivers to hold two career wins at the track with his most recent win last July race at the track.
Agnew, the 1998 USAR Hooters ProCup Series National Champion, would love to win again at the track.
"We always seem to get the NGA Hooters Golf Tour Chevrolet to the front at Jennerstown," Agnew said after his last win. "We enjoy running up there and it is a lot of fun racing there."
The competitors are looking forward to going back to the track that has hosted more USAR Hooters ProCup Series events than any other in the Northern Division. Stacy Puryear came to the track and won the inaugural event in 2001 and Shane Huffman also came up from North Carolina and won a Championship Series event. This season, the Northern Division teams will be ready.
Two of the many new faces to look for in 2003 will be Joel Kauffman, winner of the Kendall Late Model Series title in 2002, and Scott Baker.
While Kauffman and Baker bring impressive credentials with them, many other drivers look to challenge for the win. Jay Fogleman, who won last year at nearby Motordrome Speedway in September, would enjoy a strong start to 2003.
"We really enjoy running at Jennerstown Speedway, said Fogleman. "We are happy that Lucas Oil Products decided to continue its partnership with us in 2003 and nothing would be better than to begin the season with a win at the Lucas Oil 250."
