Lindley Grabs Top 10 at Jennerstown
Greenville, SC-The Hooters Air Ford Team went to Jennerstown Speedway on May 28 for the Naturally Fresh 250 looking for their first victory of the season, but the weather was not very cooperative as it rained on and off all day.
Practice was delayed, but once it did get going, Mardy Lindley was able to post the ninth quickest time of the 41 cars that hit the track. The rains came again and delayed the start of qualifying. After qualifying got underway, Mardy was sitting in the sixth position when the rains came again.
USAR Officials waited as long as they could to continue qualifying, but time ran out with only four cars remaining to take times. USAR was forced to cancel qualifying due to weather. Since qualifying was canceled, the race would be lined up from this year's points, which gave Mardy the third starting position.
The Naturally Fresh 250 started under the caution flag because the track was still to wet for racing. USAR Officials wanted the race cars to help dry the track. The green flag came out for the first time on lap 69, and Mardy ran third until lap 109 when the caution came out and the Hooters Air Team made their mandatory pit stop for two BFGoodrich g-Force Tires and Sunoco Race Fuel.
Mardy restarted at the tail end of the lead lap and spent the next 50 laps working his way back through the field to regain the third position. When the next caution came out, the second place car pitted and moved Mardy into second place behind leader Shelby Howard.
On the restart, Shelby Howard had a problem and Mardy drove into the rear of him and damaged the nose of his Ford, but was still able to get around him and take the lead on lap 172. Mardy led for 26 laps until he broke lose and got into the wall coming off turn four and was passed by Johnny Rumley on lap 198.
While running a close second to Rumley and following him through lapped traffic, Mardy passed a slower car on the inside going into the corner and was forced down onto the apron of the race track. That part of the track was still wet and caused Mardy to spin and bring out the caution with 35 laps to go.
The Hooters Air Team decided to pit and put on four tires and fuel. He then restarted at the tail end of the lead lap cars and worked his way back through the field. Mardy brought home the Hooters Air Ford in tenth position when the checked flag flew on lap 250.
The team still remains in third place in the USAR Procup Northern Division point standings despite the disappointing finish at Jennerstown Speedway.
The next race on the Hooters Air Race Team schedule is Mansfield Speedway on June 11. ShoTime Motorsports would like to thank all our sponsors for their support and hope to see you at the races!
