IRP Ready for Pro Cup Action
Longs, SC - Although Benny Gordon has stretched his lead in the Hooters Pro Cup Series Northern Division points standings to a comfortable 165-point margin over Jeff Agnew (960-795), there will be plenty of incentive to win for the Northern Division drivers this Saturday night when Indianapolis Raceway Park hosts the Aaron's 212 presented by fatheadz.com at 7 p.m.
Gordon won last week at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway and is the only multiple race winner in the division so far this season. Shelby Howard, Jeff Agnew, and Johnny Rumley are three drivers hoping to gain their second division win of the year and will also be challenging Gordon this weekend at IRP. Among those drivers, Howard hopes home cooking will give him an advantage.
The Indiana native won last month at Jennerstown Speedway for his first career Pro Cup win and looks forward to returning home for the Aaron's 212.
"It's been awhile," said Howard, a former ARCA winner and open-wheel standout. "We've been close several times, and we finally put it together [at Jennerstown]. Hopefully, there will be a bunch to follow."
Agnew is the defending winner of the race at IRP and has finished in the top-10 three out of his four previous starts at the track. Agnew was able to win easily over A J Frank last season and looks to trim Gordon's point lead as much as possible with his second win at IRP this weekend.
Aaron's will also field both of its sponsored cars this weekend when Ken Butler, III will try and move up the Northern Division point standings while his brother Brett steps out of division to run this weekend.
Also on the schedule for Saturday night is Wastequip/Galbreath 100 presented by fatheadz.com for the CRA Late Model Series that will immediately follow the Aaron's 212 presented by fatheadz.com. Front gates open at 3 p.m. with qualifying for the CRA Late models at 3:30 p.m. and Hooters Pro Cup Series qualifying scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. For more information on advance ticket or the race please contact IRP at 317-291-4090.
