JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - Shane...come back...Shane. Just like the famous line from the classic western movie by the same name, that was all the field could say as they watched driver Shane Huffman lead the majority of the race and pull away for the victory Saturday night at the USAR Hooters ProCup Naturally Fresh Mountain Spring Water 250 held at Coastal Plains Raceway. The win was the first career victory for Huffman and XTRA Motorsports, and puts them in the thick of the point's race for the 2001 USAR Series Championship.
"It's a great felling to finally make it to victory lane," said Huffman, "Actually, it's more of a relief. We knew from the start that this is what we're capable of, it's just been nagging little things that have kept us from getting here."
The win comes in Huffman's 31st career start on the ProCup Series. The wait has been much shorter for XTRA Motorsports, winning in just their fifth race on the circuit.
"It has taken the help of a lot of people to get us where we are today, and I can't thank them enough," said Huffman. "It is definitely a team effort out here. This 'Brat Bunch' is something else, and a lot of the credit goes to them. They are the ones who put that car under me tonight."
With the win, Huffman moves into a tie for third with Bobby Gill in the USAR Southern Division point standings and now sits just 16 points behind Steven Christian in second, and 58 points off of leader Jay Fogleman.
