Top ten for Lucas Oil Team at Hickory
Atlanta, GA., (July 27, 2003) - After posting a season-best qualifying effort in Saturday nights Galaxy Foods 250, Steven Christian took the green in 4th position and brought the Lucas Oil Chevrolet home 8th.
"We had the car to finish better, but when we got caught up in the accident on lap 233, that pretty much shot our chances to finish in the top three", said Christian. "This was our team's first outing with our new crew chief, Ronnie Griffin on board," Christian says "and there will be an adjustment period for everyone involved". He continued, "While it's difficult to make team changes so close to the end of the season, we are confident in Ronnie's ability to lead the Lucas Oil team through the conclusion of this race year".
While a win has thus far eluded the team in 2003, Christian is the model of consistency with eight top ten finishes in ten events this season. Four of those events included top five finishes. The team currently sits in second spot in Southern Series points, and has not been out of the top five in the points standings since the beginning of the year.
"Can we catch Huffman in the points chase?" said Christian. "With three regular season events to go, I'd say probably not. He's on fire right now. But then, who knows? And once the championships begin, we are all back on fairly even ground."
The tape-delayed broadcast of the Galaxy Foods 250 may be viewed this Thursday evening on SPEED (7:00 p.m., EST).
