Fogleman Third at Hickory

Jay Fogleman drove the JFco Motorsports, Lucas Oil Products Ford No. 4 to a third-place finish in the USAR Hooters ProCup South division's July 10 running of Ingles 250 presented by Tucson at North Carolina's Hickory Motor Speedway.

"It was really good run," said Fogleman, who started the rain-shortened race in ninth position.

Rains delayed the race near halfway, then washed out the remainder of the event on lap 193. At the time Fogleman was challenging for second place.

"To get out of here with a third is OK," said the Durham, N.C., racer. "We were just a tick tight, but we made big gains and really think we stumbled on something. Steve (Bird), myself and Joe Burke are really coming into our stride at the end of the year. Going into the Championship races I think we'll have a legitimate shot at it."

Upchurch Engineering has made gains in the engine department as well, Fogleman observed.

"We've made gains in every area," Fogleman said. "Our whole team's coming together, and we're doing it at the right time of year."

But the biggest test for the team is ahead, as Fogleman plans to run the next six ProCup races, North and South series combined.

Two of the North Races - on Virginia's Motor Mile Speedway and at Mansfield, Ohio - are on tracks that host Championship Series events. And the Aug. 14 ProCup North race at South Boston (Va.) Speedway is "too close to pass up," Fogleman said.
