PENSACOLA, FL - RIS - Freddie Query of Mooresville. NC led 158 of the 200 laps of the United Speed Alliance Racing Hooters Cup Late Model Miller Lite 200 at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL to take his first career victory at the fast high banked half-mile. The win was worth $12,000 for winning the race plus an additional $1,000 from Miller Beer for setting the fast time in qualifying and another $1,000 for leading at the halfway point from Royal Purple Lubricants.

After setting the fast time in qualifying with a speed of 103.878, Query started from the pole and dominated the first half of the race as he led the first 134 laps. He surrendered the lead to head to the pits for fresh tires and fuel and rejoined the race deep in the field. Then he began to move through traffic leading a group of cars that included Dick Anderson, Billy Bigley Jr, Ronnie Burkett and Darrell Brown.

Query's fresh rubber made a big difference and he was able to make short work of much of the field. In just 28 laps he was behind leader Bobby Gill of Dalton, GA in the Terminal Trucking Chevrolet, but Gill was riding on old tires and fading fast and Query made quick work of retaking the lead with an inside move in turn four. Just 12 laps later, on lap 188 Gill collided with the spinning car Bill Plemons Jr and his run was over.

Late in the race Dick Anderson, who for much of the race had the quickest car, made a run at Query but was unable to bring his Greenwell/Kline Castrol GTX Chevrolet alongside and make the pass. Bigley also had the chance to challenge Query, but his efforts also fell short. Anderson finished in second with Bigley in third. Rookie contender Burkett took fourth with Brown rounding out the top five.

"I'm tickled to death to win here," Query stated from Victory Lane. "This place owes me one and it couldn't have come at a better time."

Local drivers Eddie mercer and Steve Carlson had their moments in the race with both making appearances in the front of the field. Mercer put the Fast Eddies/Eddies Wholesale Auto Chevrolet in the lead for 15 laps before his tires went away allowing Gill to take the lead and Carlson showed the field the way around for 16 circuits until his Advance Construction/Ole Willies Restaurant Monte Carlo suffered brake failure while on the point on lap 152.

Fourteen drivers finished the race on the lead lap, and there were 11 caution flags to slow the pace of the race. Albertville, AL driver Tony Walls moved from his 37th, and last, starting spot to finish 11th and garner the $500 Hard Charger Award.

The next Hooters Cup Late Model race will be on July 4 at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, FL.
