Goodson Marches at Myrtle Beach USAR ProCup Series Driver Scores Second Victory of Season in Dominate Fashion

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., (June 11, 2001) -- Hal Goodson marched to the beat of his own drum Saturday night in USAR ProCup Series action at Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Speedway, scoring a dominating victory in front of his local fans.

The Darlington, S.C. native earned his second consecutive Lance Snacks Pole Award and quickly showed the strength of his No. 45 Taylor Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo. During the early stages of the event, Goodson held a full straightaway lead over the competition.

"It feels really good to be able to come down here and put on this kind of show for my fans from this area," Goodson said. "From the time we unloaded the car, we were quick. The guys on this team continue to give me great race cars and their hard work paid off tonight."

As the green flag waved, Goodson rocketed into the lead and quickly pulled away from the field. The only time Goodson surrendered the lead was during pit stops. Coming out in fifth place following the pit stop, Goodson soon found his way back to the front.

"After the pit stop, I knew we had a car that was capable of winning the race," Goodson said. "But I also knew that I needed to get back to the front quick because Jason Sarvis had started to pull away. Once I caught Sarvis and was able to pass him, I just ran my line and kept looking in my rear-view mirror to see where the competition was. This is a great victory for everyone."

The victory was Goodson's second of the season on the USAR ProCup Series. In the first eight events, Goodson has scored two victories, five top-five and seven top-ten finishes. In his last three USAR ProCup Series starts, Goodson has scored a third-place finish, a second-place finish and a victory. This consistency has propelled Goodson into a heated battle with Bobby Gill for the top spot in USAR ProCup Series Southern Division point standings.

Goodson and his Taylor Motorsports team get a weekend off before heading back into USAR ProCup Series action June 23 at Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, Va.

Tune in to Speedvision this Thursday, June 14th at 9:00 p.m. EST to catch Goodson marching into victory lane at Myrtle Beach Speedway.
