Bobby Gill Back at Lamb and Robinson in '05
Longs, SC-What happens when you combine a 3-time champion, a championship-caliber team and pit crew for an entire season?
The answer will have to wait until Nov. 26, but the deal creating the powerful equation has been signed.
Bobby Gill will return to the No. 06 USG Sheetrock Brand/ Kimnach Ford fielded by Lamb and Robinson Motorsports for the '05 season.
"We took off from the start when Bobby got in the car," said team owner Jamie Mosley. "We won the first race with Bobby in the car, and then we really jelled as a team during the Championship Series. Some people say that Bobby is hard to work with, but, once you get to know him, he's really a nice guy. The crew really likes him, and they work hard for him."
Gill's crew picked up $4,000 for being crowned the 2004 BFGoodrich Tires Pit Crew Challenge Champions, but it was their work during the Championship Series that really paid dividends.
Regardless of where Gill was running at the time, the Lamb and Robinson crew repeatedly put Gill out ahead of the competition after each pit cycle during the final five races. And that will prove pivotal in what looks to be the most competitive Pro Cup season in history.
With the influx of heavy hitters joining Pro Cup next season, Mosley knows his team must be on top of their game all year, but he believes having Gill as a driver will give them a leg up on the competition.
"I'm excited about all the new guys coming in," said Mosley. "Racing is a lot like golf, you play like the people around you. We know that we have to elevate our game for next season, but where we're going to have an advantage over some of the new teams is having Bobby. When Bobby tells you the car is pushing in the middle, the car is pushing in the middle. You don't have to wonder if he's running the wrong line. It's going to take some of the new teams a little time to learn all the lines and how to make the car better."
While all the members of the '04 team will remain intact for Lamb and Robinson, there will be a few changes for the upcoming season.
In the coming weeks, Lamb and Robinson will unveil a new paint scheme and a new Hedgecock car for the '05 season.
