CICERO, Ill. (September 12, 2001) -- In light of Tuesday's tragic events in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania, Chicago Motor Speedway and USAR have decided to cancel this weekend's Alan Kulwicki Memorial/Hooters 200 presented by Naturally Fresh Dressings. The event was scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, at Chicago Motor Speedway in Cicero, Ill.

"Chicago Motor Speedway expresses its deepest sympathy to all affected by Tuesday's events," said Pete Merkel, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Chicago Motor Speedway. "Chicago Motor Speedway joins the automobile racing community in urging the support of the survivors by contacting your local Red Cross and other support agencies."

"In review of the national tragedy on Tuesday, we feel it is in the best interest of USAR, its competitors and sponsors, as well as Chicago Motor Speedway and the City of Chicago to cancel this weekend's events," said USAR President Gene Cox. "Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family's involved. Our total support goes out to the brave and heroic efforts of the rescue personnel in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. There is no date available to reschedule this event."

Chicago Motor Speedway and USAR would also like to extend good wishes to the firefighters from Chicago and Cicero (some of whom also work at the Speedway) as they head to New York to assist in rescue and recovery efforts.
