John Boy & Billy Committed to USAR for 2004
Radio stars John Boy & Billy announced Friday, February 20, 2004 that they are going ProCup racing in 2004. The joint venture between the Carolina Motorsports Tech Center, Big Show Foods, Inc., and the John Boy & Billy Radio Network will put a unique twist on motorsports marketing. Big Show Foods, Inc. will utilize the radio power and fan base of the Big Show to create the "Ultimate Racing Block Party" known as the "John Boy & Billy Fan Zone."
Tom Price, Carl Lewis, and Fred Overman of Big Show Foods, Inc. have scheduled over sixty 'Fan Zones' in seven states. Twenty-two of these 'Fan Zones' will be located in proximity to all Southern ProCup races on Friday nights and will be held at the race tracks on Saturdays. The Friday night show will be held in shopping center parking lots, convenience stores, and truck centers with the purpose of promoting food products, raising money for the Children's Miracle Network, and entertaining Big Show Fans throughout the Southeast.
"I have been in the food business for 20 years and have heard horror stories about motorsports marketing, but what we do know is if you park a racecar in a shopping center, it attracts race fans," states Tom Price, CEO of Big Show Foods, Inc. "Last year we used the Big Show Grill in a 10-day promotion called 'Thriller on the Griller' in the Myrtle Beach area. We set up the Grill, sampled food for a number of different meat companies, listened to music, and raised money for the Children's Miracle Network. It was a great success! There wasn't a store that didn't see total sales increase and Big Show Foods' products sold great! At the end of the year we sat down with Mark Davis of the Carolina Motorsports Tech Center and put together the 'Fan Zone' concept for 2004. During Speed Weeks we parked our rig at the Ocean Front Center in Daytona for three days. We cooked 1,900 Nathan's Famous Hotdogs, 200 pounds of Johnsonville Brats, 200 pounds of fresh Food Lion sausages, 200 pounds of Claxton chicken wings, and sampled 30 cases of Cheerwine for 20,000 race fans. This is what a successful food promotion is about ---- reaching consumers and having fun!" revels Tom Price.
"The John Boy & Billy Fan Zone will sponsor the Carolina Motorsports Tech Center Southern ProCup car with driver Billy Mowery. The power of the Big Show speaks for itself and being involved with a promotion this size is just what we needed to recruit students," states Cynthia Davis, Marketing Director of CMTC. "USAR ProCup Series Fans get ready! This Fan Zone thing is just getting started! We have not even announced which shows John Boy & Billy are going to attend! There are also rumors of a possible Battle of the Bands bouncing around! This will be The Ultimate Racing Block Party!"
