Unser, Sneva to be on hand at Las Vegas


LAS VEGAS—Al Unser Jr. and Tom Sneva will be on hand to for the 10th Annual Legends Cars Asphalt Nationals and Inaugural Thunder Roadster Nationals Saturday at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Unser Jr. is a two-time Indy 500 winner. The part-time Henderson resident captured his first Indy Racing League win at the 1.5-mile superspeedway at LVMS in 2000. He will be on hand Saturday at the Bullring for the national events. Unser Jr. is scheduled to sign autographs at 3 p.m. and be the honorary starter for the“ A” Semi-Pro main event immediately following.

Sneva will be on hand Saturday to watch his nephew T.J. Sneva compete in the Legends Pro and Thunder Roadsters divisions. Sneva won the 1983 Indy 500 and two national championships in 1977 and 1978. T.J. Sneva of Indianapolis, Ind. was rookie of the year in 2000 and finished second in Indiana and Kentucky in Legends Cars. The 25-year-old will compete for the first time in his Thunder Roadster.

Qualifying and heat races are scheduled for Friday. Spectator gates open at 3 p.m. General admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children 6-12 and children five and under are free.

Championship Day is Saturday. Racing begins at noon. The 30-lap A-Mains are scheduled for 4 p.m. Spectator gates open at 11:30 a.m. General admission is $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens/military personnel and $3 children 6-12. Children five and under are free.
