Steve Wallace Dominates at Coastal Plains
--Wins Three of Final Four Events; Secures Rookie of the Year Title--
JACKSONVILLE, NC (October 24, 2004)--Steve Wallace, the 17 year-old son of NASCAR legend, Rusty Wallace, started from the pole and led every lap en route to a victory in tonight's National Dodge 150 at Coastal Plains Raceway Park. His victory in the UARA-STARS season finale marks his third win of the year and his third victory in the last four UARA-STARS series events. By virtue of his performance, the younger Wallace secured the Hobart Sales and Service Rookie of the Year title. In addition, Wallace's qualifying lap of 15.69 seconds smashed the former track record by nearly three tenths of a second, adding to the plethora of track records he has secured this season.
POST RACE QUOTES:
Steve Wallace, Driver #02 Blueflame Authentics Dodge Intrepid: "I'll tell you what, we had one heck of a hot rod tonight. Our Maurice Petty-powered Dodge Intrepid was incredible. Dad's Busch Series crew chief, Blake Bainbridge, started working with us a lot before Bristol and we've won three of four races since then. He's really awesome with all of the setups. I've learned a lot from him. I am still just in total disbelief of what's happened recently. Our cars have been so awesome. The one we had today was a total rocketship all night long. Both of my parents and my brother, Greg, were here to see this race today and that made it all that much sweeter. I think that our new sponsor, Blueflame Authentics, must be good luck. They've been on board with us since Bristol and we've won three races and the Rookie of the Year title for them since."
Rusty Wallace, Team Owner: "I haven't really been able to see Steve run this year. I was really impressed with how smooth he drove. He's matured so much and looks really good behind the wheel. Every other time I've watched him, he's either crashed, blown up or had something crazy happen. I was starting to think that I was bad luck. I guess that I'm not anymore."
