The Kendall Indiana Late Model Series made their first appearance at Toledo Speedway Friday night. Harold Fair Jr inherited the lead on lap 33 when early leader Matt Hagens’ engine expired. Scott Hantz came in second. Hantz was never really able to mount a challenge on Fair Jr because of all the laps run under caution. The first 20 laps were run without a caution and then came a series of seven caution flag periods which robbed the 30 car field of any chance to put on a race.
The Kendall Series count their all their caution flag laps on tracks a half mile or larger. At the end, the caution laps accounted for 59 of the 104 laps run! Since the final final five laps must be run under all green conditions the race went over the schedule 100 laps. The fans were so upset at the proceedings that when the final caution came out at lap 95 they cheered, figuring they would finally see some racing.
In contrast the Figure 8 division’s precision driving throughout the entire green flag race kept the fans on the edge of their seats. The 20-lap feature provided thrill after thrill as there were numerous breath taking calls at the intersection. Jeremy Miller held off a determined Greg Studt for his second feature win of the season at Toledo.
The Factory Stock division saw Jeff Maran became sole leader of features won in the 2000 season with his victory tonight. Points’ leader Paul Duffin started 20th but moved his way methodically forward to take second at the checkered flag. As usual this division put on their entertaining race, running two and three wide at times on the 1/5 mile track.
