Rain forces ISMA-Lucas Oil event at Toledo to run Sunday
Toledo, OH - Once again Mother Nature frowned on the ISMA-Lucas Oil Super Series, but this time some racing was completed. A great field of almost 40 supers was on hand Friday night at the Toledo (OH) Speedway and anxious to race after three straight weekends of rain which caused the cancellation of Oswego's Jim Shampine Memorial 50. At Toledo the qualifying events were in and the 50 lap feature had just taken the green before rain once again fell. After waiting for over an hour and with little sign of the showers letting up, it was determined that the ISMA feature would be run Sunday. Saturday, the ISMA-Lucas Oil Super Series was slated for a 75 lapper at nearby Sandusky Speedway, so Sunday was an obvious choice.
Toledo management, who already planned on a Father's Day special show, decided to run the ISMA race at 1:00 pm on Sunday with gates opening at 10:00 am and practice at noon. The ISMA feature will then be flagged off at 1:00 p.m. Fans are welcome to stay on to see Toledo's scheduled event for later that afternoon which includes a 50 lap Sportsman race, a Figure 8 Boat race, Factory Stocks and 4-cylinder Stocks. Rainchecks from Friday's winged racing will be honored on Sunday for the entire slate of racing. Rainchecks must be presented at the front gate. Those holding pit passes must present them at the pit gate and resign the pit release.
In time trials, Russ Wood broke the old track record which Chris Perley had set just last year, but Perley came right back to knock five one thousandths off Wood's mark to reclaim the record. The three ISMA heats that were in the books saw Lou Cicconi, Mark Sammut and Timmy Jedrzejek come home the winners. A fourteen-car consolation was taken by Jim Shirey who grabbed the lead from Dave McKnight at the halfway mark.
After Sandusky's race on Saturday, June 14 and the continuation of Toledo's program, the ISMA-Lucas Oil Super Series is off until July 12th when they travel north of the border to Cayuga Speedway.
