Team ASE Legends car captures University championship.
ROUGEMONT, NC (April 17, 2001) - Team ASE added another championship to its winning resume when the University of North Carolina - Charlotte won the Intercollegiate Auto Racing (ICAR) title this past weekend at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC.
Led by primary driver Wes Burton and crew chief Richard Johns, the team won five of six events this season against teams from North Carolina State University, the University of Virginia, the University of South Carolina and North Carolina A&T. The races were held at Orange County, New River Valley Speedway in Virginia, Concord (NC) Motorsports Park and Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC.
The UNCC team was comprised of 20 students, all who participate in the school's Motorsports Engineering program. The ICAR championship was the second-straight for the UNCC Team ASE entry and the fifth overall for the school. The team also captured the 'Winter Heat' title, a nine-race program earlier this year. Those events were held under the direction of INEX and 600 Racing.
The University of North Carolina - Charlotte Team ASE Legends car team will participate in the Summer Legends Shootout Pro Division throughout the summer at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The 10-event series takes the green flag Tuesday, June 11 and runs through August 13. The events will be telecast live on stations throughout the Fox Sports Network.
